Hello..Need help choosing an engagement ring -$3K budget?

Does it have to be a diamond? Is your girl more traditional? I ask because I'm definitely not traditional, but my boyfriend and I wanted to get married. He ended up getting me a sapphire. It's gorgeous and he was able to get little diamonds on it too because sapphires aren't as expensive as diamonds. Not to mention, the ring is UNIQUE. You could spend $3,000 on an AWESOME colored stone ring. Everyone stops to look at my ring =)
